Ice Alaska - North Pole Closing Ceremony

The North Pole ice park is at the Santaland RV Park right next to the Santa Claus house. Just take the Richardson Hwy towards North Pole and you'll drive right by it, then take the next right off the highway.

6pm is the ceremony - hours for the day are noon - 9pm

The website notes the closing ceremony, but I'm not sure what activities they'll have. It's a "warm" day, and a fun way to get some exercise for the kids. They have a kid park with slides as does the Phillips Field Road park. In fact, if you buy a season pass at North Pole, it's going to be good come Feb 26 on opening of the Fairbanks Ice Alaska! What a deal. Stay warm!

Registration table opens at 10am, but you can check in and out at anytime during the day.

Birch Hill Cross Country Ski Center

You can choose to ski your age, or select any distance appropriate for your age and fitness level. The organizers have developed a table with bronze, silver, gold and platinum achievement levels for each age. The goal of the event is to get as many people out to ski as many kilometers as possible.

Bring some food to share if you'd like, to help feed those that might need nourishment during their attempt at sking their age.

In partnership with the Alaska Space Grant Program

Scheduled for launch on Friday, August 3, the Phoenix Mission to Mars* is the first in NASA's Scout Program. Phoenix is designed to study the history of water and habitability potential in the Martian arctic's ice-rich soil. Count down to the launch with a film and lecture series at the UA Museum of the North.

Spend the entire evening at the museum or just come for a couple hours to take in a lecture, a film and/or the live launch broadcast.

Activities include:
7 PM............. Introductions and Mars Feature Film
8-9:30 PM...... 30 Minute Lectures: Mars Exploration Past/Present
9:30 PM........ Break to watch kids launch rockets
10-11:30 PM.. 30 Minute Lectures: Mars Explorations Future
11:30 PM.......Second showing of Mars Feature Film

8 - 10 PM......Rocket building program
For children ages 7-12 accompanied by a parent or adult mentor.

This is a can't miss event for kids in Fairbanks. Get there early and find the best spot along the parade route. Bring chairs, snacks, and drinks, and the kids should bring a reusable bag to store all the goodies and candies thrown to them from the floats and walkers!!!

There are more than 100 entries in Alaska's largest parade! There are marching bands, clowns, jugglers, antique cars, hybrid cars, bikers, walkers, and of course, floats.

The parade begins at the Carlson Center and goes through downtown...ending at Noble and Airport.

They release rubber duckies at the Wendell Street bridge, and those yellow little floaters race down the Chena to the finish line at the Cushman Street bridge by the visitors center. 6,000 numbered rubber duckies totaling over $20,000 in cash and prizes head down to Golden Heart Plaza.
