Anchorage’s July 4th Celebration happens in downtown Anchorage July 4, 2006,
from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The celebration begins with a $5 per person pancake breakfast benefiting homeless programs of The Salvation Army.

The annual veteran’s parade leads the community parade at 11:00 a.m. along Sixth Avenue between E and K streets.

At 2:30 p.m. hand cycle racers from the National Veteran’s Wheelchair Games take over the race course, followed by the finish of the Sadler’s Ultra Challenge at 3:30 p.m.

Also in the afternoon, the Harvard Club will read the Declaration of Independence in their 1776 period costumes.

Finally, it’s a giant family picnic on the Park Strip with plenty of food and three stages of continuous music and entertainment.

In its fifth year, the event brought 30,000 people downtown in 2005. Anchorage's July 4th celebration is organized by the Anchorage July 4th Committee with parade help from the Veteran's Fourth of July Parade Committee. ConocoPhillips, Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Providence Alaska Medical Center, Cellular One, KTUU, the Municipality of Anchorage and other local companies provide sponsorship support.
